Citizenship by Descent

Individuals whose parent(s) or grandparent(s) are Jamaican citizens may apply for Jamaican citizenship.

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  • Citizenship application form (click here)
  • Applicant’s Birth Certificate
  • Mother’s and/or Father’s Birth Certificate
  • Applicant’s parents’ Marriage Certificate, where applicable
  • Two recent passport-sized photographs – both to be notarized by a Notary Public or consulate officer
  • Certified copy of Parents’ Jamaican Passport or other form of Identification
  • Certified copy of adult applicant’s government-issued photo ID
  • Money order or cashier’s check in the amount of $130 payable to “Embassy of Jamaica”

Citizenship by Marriage

An individual (man or woman) who is legally married to a Jamaican citizen may apply for Jamaican citizenship.

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  • Original copy of birth certificate and passport of the Jamaican National
  • Original copy of birth certificate and passport of the applicant (spouse)
  • Original copy of marriage certificate
  • Police Record of the Applicant obtained no more than six months prior to application
  • Income letter and bank statement
  • Two (2) passport-sized photographs of the applicant
  • Completed Application R1 Form (click here)
  • Letter to the Minister of National Security and Justice requesting registration as a citizen of Jamaica
  • Money order or cashier’s check in the amount of $290 payable to “Embassy of Jamaica”
